Embden geese were refined in northern Europe and became one of the best-known heavy white goose breeds for farm and table use. Adults are broad, deep-bodied birds with white plumage, orange bills and feet, and an impressive, substantial carriage. They grow into generous table birds, graze efficiently, and bring a calm but confident presence to a well-managed flock. Geese are strongly social and often form close flock bonds, bringing plenty of presence to a pasture or homestead. Their heavy build calls for level ground, roomy shelter openings, and clean, dry resting areas. They appreciate good grazing, shade, clean water for drinking and head washing, and secure nighttime shelter. Thoughtful fencing and calm, consistent handling are especially valuable during the breeding season.
